:// A familiar voice returns to Cville’s airwaves | Friday, August 27, 2010
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE... Cville’s #1 Hit Music Station, Hot 101.9 is excited to announce the hiring of Pauly Madison for middays on the station. Madison is no stranger to Charlottesville, or to WHTE/Hot 101.9 for that matter. He served as the initial PD when the station originally launched in 2001, and he remained there until 2003.
The hire seems like a no-brainer according to current PD, PJ Styles. “Pauly was at the helm when Hot first launched, and I was right there beside him. We helped grow the station together, and this may sound goofy, but Pauly and I have always “gotten each other.” I’m truly excited to team up again and see how far we can take the station…the future at Hot 101.9 and Monticello Media is definitely bright.” Madison shares the same sentiments. “Talk about putting the band back together! To come back to Cville with Steve Gaines back at the helm and to support PJ’s vision for the station is a real gift…and to do it without the restrictions of corporate radio can’t be anything short of a blast!”
Madison will take to the airwaves officially on September 1st, replacing current midday man, Erik Murphy, who is vacating the chair after five years with the station. | back to top |

:// New format on 670AM | Friday, July 16, 2010
Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting Corp (CPBC) has LMA-ed their 670 Claremont/Hampton Roads signal to the "Heart-n-Soul" Radio Network from Richmond. The same format is heard on Preston T Brown's WCLM/1450 Highland Springs/Richmond (he also owns WHAP/1340 Hopewell).
Radio Disney sold its O&O WHKT/1650 Portsmouth and "Christian Talk Radio 1010" WRJR/1010 Portsmouth (LMA with CPBC) back to its original owner, CPBC, back in January for $350,000. Five months later, the Conservative Talk format heard on 670 was simulcasted on WHKT. A month later, the simulcast was dropped (WHKT is now known as "Freedom 1650"), 670 went silent and put up for sale ($500,000). On July 1, the 670 signal swapped call letters with sister 1010 when the "Heart-n-Soul" Radio Network debuted on the new WRJR 670.
Though WRJR/670 has a monster daytime signal at a 20K watts (directional) on the low end of the dial from Surry County, it's anemic at night with just 3 watts. To help the night coverage, an experimental synchronous AM station (WR2XJR) was granted by the FCC in 2004 for a directional 700 watts from Portsmouth. At night, the signal from Portsmouth is "synched" with the signal from Surry County. | back to top |
