NewsChannel 3 After eight years with WTKR (3/CBS) Norfolk, reporter/anchor Priscilla Monti's contract with the station is not being renewed. Monti joined the station from Belo's WVEC (13/ABC) Hampton/Norfolk in December 1999.

We also know reporter/anchor Lisa Godley will be let go when her contract expires. Although not stated in her station bio, we believe Godley has been with WTKR a bit longer than Monti. Godley and Monti will be gone from WTKR by the end of the year.

On the flip side, the station owner, Local TV LLC, has hired three new on-air people. Sara Morris is WTKR's new weekend evening anchor, replacing Bob Matthews who is back to weekday reporting. Morris hails from Cox Television's "K-Fox 14" KFOX El Paso TX.

Laila Muhammad is Channel 3's new weekend morning anchor from Media General's WNCT (9/CBS) Greenville NC. And finally, Marie Coronel is a new general assignment reporter from Nexstar's "NBC25" WHAG Hagerstown MD.

We hear WTKR will roll out a new graphic look and music package next week to complete the on-air look overhaul that began with the updated set that debuted last month. Whew... Stay tuned.

:// Warrenton station to drop format
      |

Earlier this month, VARTV reported that non-profit Praise Communications agreed to sell its Christian Contemporary "Praise Radio" WPRZ/1250 Warrenton to Metro Radio for $1.1M. We now know the current religious format will be tossed for Spanish this weekend according to the station's website at praisecommunications.org.

The new owners already own two Spanish/Spanish-brokered stations in Northern Virginia -- "La Campeona 1420 AM" WKCW/1420 Warrenton and "Radio Universal" WKDV/1460 Manassas. New call letters are coming soon.

Not part of the sale was the intellectual property of the station. Praise had put up the "WPRZ" call letters for sale. And there was a taker. For an undisclosed amount, Rocklin CA-based Educational Media Foundation (EMF Broadcasting) has gotten the rights to the WPRZ calls. EMF runs the Christian Contemporary "K-Love" and Christian Rock "Air 1" formats on over 300+ frequencies across the country.

:// A lot of hard work ahead
      |

Commentary: We just saw the ratings for the local TV stations in Hampton Roads for yesterday. Even though it is just one day's worth, Local TV LLC's "NewsChannel 3" WTKR (CBS) Norfolk has A LOT of work ahead of them.

WTKR's evening newscasts from 5-6:30 p.m. were hammered by the news on LIN TV's WAVY (10/NBC) and Belo's WVEC (13/ABC). Channel 3 rated so low it came in 6th(!) place at 5 and 6 but was in 4th place at 5:30. The audience rating/share for Channel 10 and 13 combined at 6 p.m. was 19.54/34.8 to WTKR's anemic 1.13/2.

Besides WAVY and WVEC, programming on WVBT (43/FOX), WGNT (27/CW) and WTVZ (33/MNT) bested the news on WTKR. The station is doing better as a whole for M-F, September.
