| Monday, June 25, 2007Several new Virginia radio stations are broadcasting in HD Radio. None of the stations are doing HD2 channels. We 're hearing that all the Radio One properties, even the AM in Petersburg will go HD shortly. If Radio One repeats what it does elsewhere, expect the Urban Talk/Oldies format of 1240 to appear on one of the FM HD2 channels. For Clear Channel Roanoke, our guess is that rocker WROV/96.3 will be next in line to go digital. The company just added WJJS/106.1 Vinton, WJJX/101.7 Lynchburg and WSNV/93.5 Salem to the list of stations possibly to be sold. Those will do HD radio at a much later date.
| Monday, June 25, 2007Former Cox Radio Country "K95" WKHK/95.3 Colonial Heights/Richmond Program Director Jim Tice lands a similar position with Clear Channel Country WDRM/102.1 Decatur/Huntsville AL. Tice says, "I am very excited to join the Clear Channel team at WDRM in Huntsville. Most of my family lives in Birmingham, which is just an hour and a half down the road." Alabama is home for Tice. He worked in Birmingham at WZZK/104.7 for 16 years from October 1984 through December 2000. In December 2000, Tice moved to Cox Radio's newest acquisition WKHK where he worked for six years which ended in March of this year. Although Tice's official start date is July 1, he's already been seen in the hallways of the Clear Channel cluster.

| Thursday, June 14, 2007Don Heyne, former owner of WINA in Charlottesville, died on Sunday. He was 99. He also owned WJMA in Orange from 1958 to 1961. During the time he owned WJMA, he moved the station into a new building and increased daytime power from 250 watts to 1,000 watts. During his ownership of WINA he put WINA FM (now WQMZ) on the air. | Wednesday, June 13, 2007 Effective July 18, 2007, Cox Hampton Roads will no longer offer HBO2, Cinemax and Showtime as premium analog channels and they will be available only with a digital receiver. HBO2 will be exclusively available on channel 152, Cinemax channel 161, and Showtime on channel 171. The only analog premium channel left, HBO, will remain on channel 21 as it has been for the past 30 years.Speculation is that Cox Hampton Roads is freeing up bandwidth to add additional local and national channels in the near future.

No word if Levay is just off the air with Main Line or out altogether. "R&B" is heard on nearly three dozen stations in the Southeast.

WHAN will become a daytime-only (sunrise to sunset) but will be able to increase it's daytime signal from 1kW to 50kW. WHAN also does 31 watts at night on AM1430.

| Tuesday, May 1, 2007Stu-Com's Modern Rock WNRN/91.9 Charlottesville transmit antenna got dislodged and fell off the tower two weeks ago, forcing the station to operate at half power from an antenna half way down their tower. This still gives WNRN a strong signal in the Charlottesville area, however after Columbia Union College's Christian Contemporary WGTS/91.9 Takoma Park MD went back to full power last week on the WETA tower, after a month of being on decreased power due to WETA putting in a new antenna. The signal is having trouble making it as far north as it normally does, a new antenna is currently on order and they "should have service restored to Madison County and Culpeper this weekend." Less than a month ago, we told that the FCC had granted Bay Broadcasting (Country WBEY/97.9 Crisfield MD and controls Birach's Standards WGOP/540 and Great Scott's WKHW/106.5) a new AM station in Pocomoke City. It now has new call letters and to no surprise it's WBEY. At 1070KHz, WBEY will be a directional 500 watts during the day and 250 watts at night. 1070 will put a listenable signal into the northern parts of Virginia's Eastern Shore from Bloxom on north. The FM side has been officially known as WBEY-FM since January 2005..... (5/1/2007)
| Tuesday, May 1, 2007Should Lincoln Financial Group (which includes "NBC12" WWBT/Richmond) decide to get out of broadcasting - which, we would note, is still only a rumor - some very attractive properties will be coming on the market. All of the radio properties are in top 40 markets and the TV stations are long-established news leaders in high growth southeastern markets. (read more - Television Business Report)
